Domain zones and their rules

The maximum term is the longest period for which a name in this zone may be registered or renewed in a single operation. A separate limit applies to the DATE: after a renewal the expiry date may not stand further from the day of the renewal than that same number of years.

The procedure for changing the Registrant is the same in every zone in which we provide services: it is carried out on the written application of the current Registrant, and the consent of the incoming Registrant does not replace it.

Some designations are reserved or barred from registration by the rules of the zone concerned; an application for such a name is refused by the registry.

Mirror zones are different spellings of the same region’s name. A name in each of them is registered and paid for separately, but every name in the group must be held by one registrant through one registrar, and they transfer together.

The “no new registrations” mark means the registry operator no longer registers new domain names in that zone. Names already registered are unaffected: they can still be renewed, transferred to another registrar and restored after deletion. To register a new name, use the current spelling of the same zone.
